Preferences of Gender Essay - 787 Words

Preferences of Gender Some might argue that there is a difference in the parenting of a boy compared to that of a girl. However true this may be, one must recognize and disregard the sexist implications that have been portrayed for generations. Girls are often said to be easily content and depicted as â€Å"brave and tough†. One might be surprised to find that a little girl could be just as interested in playing with a football as she would a Barbie doll if given the opportunity. This simply demonstrates the nonsexist choice of a toy that the girl has made. There are, without a doubt, many differences and different needs in raising a boy than a girl. These differences, however, do not exhibit the difficulties it takes to raise a boy†¦show more content†¦Therefore, if the couple is given the option of sex pre-selection, they would be creating an â€Å"ideal† sex ratio within their family, simply by having a boy and then a girl. Most couples that go through sex pre-selection al ready have at least one or two girls. Lawyers, health activists, feminists, doctors, and politicians should not have the say in the gender of a child for a couple. By a couple being able to make their own choice of their child’s gender, they are merely weaving out the unwanted children of an undesired sex in the population. This undoubtedly leads to less abortions, and less partial birth abortions. Is it fair to allow those who rather adopt or have no choice but to adopt to choose the sex of their child, and not allow those who are capable of having a child to choose the gender of their baby? Ideally, one sees a family as being the husband going to work everyday, the wife staying home to take care of the house and family, the son who is the star player on his high school football team and the little sister that the â€Å"big brother† takes care of. Lets face it though the fifty’s are over and this idealism is merely a hypothetical dream of a utopian society where the sex ratio is one to one, most family’s either have on child, or no childrenShow MoreRelatedWhat Is Gender Preferences?806 Words   |  4 Pagesonly to take out the larger group of people if they are breaking the law and the passengers of the vehicle will die if the car avoids them. Reconstruction Of The Civil War - 847 Words

Microtheme One - Reconstruction The Reconstruction happened in period following the end of the American Civil and the main goal was to reintegrate the Southern Confederate States back into the Union after they had been defeated by the Union (Northern States). As would be expected, the process was met with many challenges as the interests of both groups had to be addressed. There was debate over the terms under which the Confederate States would be allowed back into the Union, and whether it was the president or congress to set these terms. There was also the question about what rights freed slaves had and their role in the new American society. Even though the war had ended, the reconstruction presented a new battlefront for a political struggle between the North and the South. This paper analyses what reconstruction sought to achieve, and why it failed with dire long-term consequences. By the time the Civil War ended in early 1865, about 4 million slaves had been freed in the South. Sharp political and ideological differences arose over the fate of the Southern States under the Union and the millions of freed slaves. The people of the North wanted to see the Southern States punished for fighting against the Union. They argued that the Southern communities had abolished their State governments which connected them politically to the Union and had ended up as disorganized communities by the end of the war. â€Å"They deliberately abolished their State governments so far as theShow MoreRelatedReconstruction Of The Civil War1108 Words   |  5 PagesAmerica’s Mindset Although the end of the Civil War and the beginning of the Reconstruction brought great hope to America’s four million former slaves, the efforts of Congressional Reconstruction ultimately failed to establish equal rights for the freedmen because the racist mindset still dominated American society at the time and Democratic influence steadily overcame Republican control in Congress. The True Nature of Human Beings free essay sample

Many have wondered what the true nature of human beings is. The true nature of human beings can be found on religious ways or on their actions. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, he writes of a group of boys that get stranded on an island without any adult. In three documents using knowledge from religion psychology and actions from people we can see that the true nature of a human being is good. Evil is the intent to terrorize or target a helpless person. â€Å"Ted Bundy with the blood of 24 women on his hands called his victims ‘cargo’ and ‘damaged goods’†. People with evilness don’t see that they are not only hurting that person but everyone around them. Evil is when you make the attempt to make someone feel scared, the people with evil doing, do not care about the person being harmed. The result of being evil comes from a young age. We will write a custom essay sample on The True Nature of Human Beings or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â€Å"But abuse also seems to leave a physical trace on the developing brain, assaulting it with a constant barrage of stress hormones†¦ Sadists and coldblooded killers, show virtually no response to stress-no racing heart, no sweating, and no adrenaline rush. † People that are abused physically and verbally later on can turn violent themselves. This can show that people are good when they are young but when they are treated badly their perspective changes and they turn into a bad person. People can be changed into bad if they are treated badly. Help comes from being good and the people at the Boston Marathon Bombing truly showed the good in them. â€Å"By the time I got there, there were so many first responders and volunteer physicians. ’ He said. ‘I’ve never seen anything like it in terms of the quickness of the response to that tragedy. ’† Any person with medical education rushed quickly to the scene and helped everyone. This matters because the people risked their lives and decided to help and respond quickly. Another example, â€Å"Arrendo is seen in a video, wearing a cowboy hat, helping National Guard troops, Police and firefighters wrestle a fence open to allow emergency responders to reach the dozens of wounded people bleeding on the Boston sidewalk. † This matters because the man is a normal civilian who rushes to help the officials open a fence. He sees the importance to open the fence and doesn’t care about his own safety. The Jewish religion has a specific view of the nature of a human being as shown in the document â€Å"Human Nature: Inherently Good or Evil? Ethics of the Fathers 1:7†. â€Å"All Israel have a portion in the World to come. † This means that people are good and they have a place of True Reward and they will keep it if they do not do something bad to change it. God has given the people the direct opening to True Reward and they will not go if they do bad things. â€Å"And God saw the great evil of man in the world and that the entire impulse of the thoughts of his heart were evil all day. † The interpretation of this verse is that people are inherently good. Their heart has no bad in it but the thoughts that come to the heart are what make it evil thus, making a person not inherently bad. People are only evil because their thoughts are evil. In the novel Lord of the Flies it is shown that evil is not something that humans are born with. ‘â€Å"You knew didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close! I’m the reason why it’s no go? Why things are what they are? †Ã¢â‚¬â„¢(Golding 133). The Lord of the Flies is the monster and the monster is just a mental figure created by the little children. The evil of the monster is just an evil thought which was not born with them. ‘â€Å"Just a game,’ said Ralph uneasily† (Golding 106). The kids start playing a game where one of the kids pretends to be the pig and everyone else tries to kill him, literally; this shows that there evil did not come from their heart to kill the kid. The thought of killing a pig and to pretend to do it in a fun way shows that they did not do it because they have that quality inherited but only a thought. These quotations connect to the document of Jewish religion, that people are not evil inherently evil it is only the thought of evil that comes up. With all the evidence taken in mind given from the novel and documents, it is clearly shown that human beings are not inherently evil. They are inherently good. People help others when they need it, risking their lives or giving their life away. People might be bad but it is only because they have the thought of evil, it does not come from the heart.
